What’s Happening With Oceania Sonata

Oceania Cruises pulled back the curtain on January 6 on the suite designs for its upcoming Oceania Sonata, the first in a new Sonata Class. This 86,000-gross-ton ship is scheduled to launch in August 2027, and the cruise line is clearly leaning into the luxury accommodation angle. A third of all staterooms will be suites, up from around a quarter on earlier vessels.

The headline addition is the Horizon Suite, a brand-new category with 50 units. These clock in at over 600 square feet and feature a proper split between living and sleeping areas, plus a walk-through wardrobe and an oversized balcony. It sits between the familiar Penthouse and Oceania Suite tiers, so it fills a gap for clients who want more space without jumping straight to the top end.

The Suite Lineup Worth Knowing About

The Suite Lineup Worth Knowing About

At the very top, there are four Owner’s Suites spanning more than 2,500 square feet. They come with two bedrooms (a king and a queen), 180-degree views, and those wraparound verandas—the first time Oceania has done that. Then you’ve got eight Vista Suites (1,500–1,900 sq ft) positioned at the aft with big balconies, and 16 Oceania Suites (1,000–1,400+ sq ft) with separate living, dining, and bedroom zones.

Further down the range, there are 63 Penthouse Suites at 426 square feet and 82 newly designed Penthouse Deluxe Suites at 488 square feet. Both include living areas and verandas. Every suite comes with butler service, and some of the higher categories get in-suite Illy coffee makers, which is a nice touch for caffeine enthusiasts.

The Booking Angle

Itineraries go live on January 21, and bookings open a week later on January 28. That gives you a short window to prep clients who might be interested in snagging one of the new Horizon Suites or the top-tier options before they fill up. Given that suites make up a third of the ship’s inventory, there’s more availability than you might expect—but the Owner’s and Vista categories are limited, so those could move quickly.

The ship carries 1,390 guests with 855 crew, so the guest-to-crew ratio should appeal to clients who value attentive service. Oceania has said the designs were shaped by guest feedback, which suggests they’re responding to what people have been asking for: more space, better layouts, smarter storage.

This is a good upsell conversation starter for clients already looking at Oceania or similar lines—especially if they’ve been in smaller Penthouse categories before and might appreciate the extra square footage in the Horizon tier. The early booking window also gives you a chance to position this as a 2027 option worth getting ahead on, particularly for clients who like being first on a new ship.
